Camping

We moved to the saddle between Benbow and Marum volcanoes for a few nights of camping to wait out the weather. It never really improved, but we did get a few glimpses of the landscape and chances to walk over to the craters.

Re: risk

Depends on the volcano :) Some erupt very frequently and regularly, in which case the distance at which rocks are thrown is quite predictable. Others have larger eruptions, but erupt so infrequently that the chance of that happening in a given night is tiny. Yet others you better not get close to at all. On this pic we're actually over one kilometer from the nearest active crater, and large eruptions for which this would be an unsafe distance are extremely rare on Ambrym from what I hear.

Surreal Campsite

What a surreal place to camp, must be an amazing experience.
