Cerro Carachuco, I think

Many of the hills in the Cordillera Negra are very similar, so I don't know for sure if it is Cerro Carachuco, or another one nearby. Not that it matters. When you've just arrived in Huaraz and want to acclimatize, or simply want to have a lazy day, you can roam these hills at your leisure. The easiest way is to take a colectivo (a shared taxi) up to Callan Punta (4225m), or part way up at least, and enjoy the views of the Cordillera Blanca, which you can see in the background. You can walk back down towards Huaraz and if you're tired or if it gets late, go to the main road and hop on one of the many colectivos again. 3 August 2011.
