2018 Open Access Dates

From the Highpointers Club newsletter:
- February 17-18
- June 2-3
- July 7-8
- August 4-5
- September 1-2
(The first full weekend of each Summer month, plus President's Day weekend)

The owners have three firm rules:
1. No cars up in our lane.
2. No pets
3. No visitors after dark.

They also ask you not to crowd the country road. Park on one side off the blacktop so that farm equipment can pass through.

My 9th state highpoint.

My 1st visit to this state highpoint was in June 2008. Have visited this location at least 4 other times and always seemed to be around the 4th of July weekend. Once you get to the top of Charles Mound, there is an awesome view of the surrounding farmland and views into Wisconsin. At the summit, there were 3 poles placed "tee-pee" style with a sign indicating the highpoint and statistics. A few lawn chairs were also present. Also, IF anyone is interested in benchmarks, there are a few benchmarks in the immediate area, if I remember correctly

Unless otherwise posted, only days available to visit this highpoint are the first weekends in June, July, august, September. I always tried to the get parking area as early as possible for the roadway will quickly become crowded with parked vehicles and the trail crowded with visitors.

Parking is limited at the access point. Whenever I have visited in the past I parked very close to an orange gate that had a sign mounted onto it indicating the highpoint. Go through the gate and follow the gravel driveway to the top - roughly 2 mile round-trip. Not hard to get to the top, just follow the road. On way back down during one visit I was not paying attention and curved down another driveway. Realized my mistake about 1/4 mile later and back-tracked to correct route.
