Charles Mound with my kids
Took my kids up for their first state highpoint; they were skeptical at first but ended up loving the experience. Only negative thing was the large amount of flying insects that dive-bombed us while we were there.

Private property, only certain weekends allowed in summer months. Check before you go. Easy hike, saw my CO friends Dorthe and Ian (mountainhikerCO) on the highpoint

The biggest challenge was navigating our way through all the back roads from Dubuque IA!

Highpoint #4
A work meeting brought me to Illinois and as luck would have it, this hike was opened on the weekend after my meeting. Couldn't pass up the chance to check off #4! Thank you BMS!
Sight: beautiful farmscapes
Sound: wind moving through the willows and box elders, mixed with a cacophony of grosbeaks, blackbirds, doves and wrens.
Smell: loads of flowers, lots of pollen
Touch: warm sunshine with a breeze
Taste: delicious ripe raspberries lining the lane that you walk up

This was fun because I talked to about 25 other highpointers on my short walk up and back. Met a couple who were at #49, only lacking Wyoming, and a couple other folks who had recently done Whitney and Rainier, so it was fun talking to people with this same interest.
Great weather, nice stroll; not much else to say. Saw approximately a dozen people during the hike in and out.
Thank you to the Owners for allowing us access to Illinois' Highpoint!

Peaceful, sunny day
Enjoyed seeing this (for me) unknown part of the country. The view from the top is outstanding. First of three midwestern high points for me on this trip.

Highpoint #3
Had a nice hike to the summit with my brother and my friend back in 2011.
Climbed up with my wife and two kids (a 3.5 and 1 year old). We were on our way out to Iowa to visit my wife's family. Saw Mr. Wuebbel working on his driveway while we climbed up. Was a nice visit and was my 26th highpoint and first in 5 years.

Highpoint #41
Would have liked to spend more time enjoying the view but the bugs limited our early morning hike. (After moving away from the Midwest 8 years ago sort of forgot about the humidity and bugs!)Many people were headed up after us - unfortunately we didn't take the time to chat much as we had a 19 hour roadtrip back home to Utah. Note:Got there a day early and did the touristy thing in Galena on Friday but stayed in Plattsville,WI at a new Super 8 which is due north of the highpoint - much cheaper than staying in Galena and the Mexican restuarant next door had $0.99 Margaritas M - Th!.

Cousin had wedding night before in La Crosse WI and when I realized same weekend this was open no way I was missing out. Beautiful crisp walk on country road. Very picturesque and enjoyable. And now I have 30 high points which sounds much better than 29.
This was my first "climb"!
Realized that the highpoint in Illinois is only open 4 weekends each year, so we had to get out there on the last day. Stagecoach Trail was closed (bridge out?) between Warren and Apple River - causing a major detour. The detour signs take you WAY out of the way, luckily we ignored them and took some gravel roads around the closure.
A lovely walk up the hill from the main road on a nice day. Did it in the mid-afternoon, ran into another couple headed up on our way down.
