FOG! (#1)
On a business trip to Atlanta I decided to make a few detours on the way home. Stop number 1 was Cheaha Mountain. Only a quick drive through the park and some pictures this trip. I'll be back, Alabama is beautiful.

HP# 15
About a month after my first HP trip to the E/NE that got me #s 4-12...It's time for another trip E to NC, but I took a S/SE side trip to get a bunch more HPs. (HP 3 of 7 during this trip). Very beautiful area, lots to look at. USGS seal on the ground in front of the observation tower, view from top is not as good as expected with the window type. But other displays and views from the park are better. Some hiking to be done also.

Very Underrated
If you're here for the HP take this trail up! M and F late 20's in shape + golden retriever, took our time enjoying the lookouts and spotting our dog in the steep sections. 1.25hrs to top. well worth it. This is a very underrated state high point. Views from the cliffs on the way up were better than the view from the lookout. Steep with some Class2 sections. Probably not the hike for unstable people. Hot midday. Decent took 30-40mins. CAUTION for snakes, if you cant see whats in it, do not put your hands, feet, or snout there. We kept our dog on leash for this reason. Would do again for sure.

#8 state high point
Beautiful day to visit the top of Alabama. Very peaceful and quiet, only one or two cars arrived after I did. Pleased to find a nice fenced dog park at the top where my best buddy could have a bit of a run around. Got dripped on by water in the tower.

Drove up on Sept 1, 2020. Next day after camping at the CCC campground (had the place to myself) hiked up from Cheaha Lake. Jumped in the lake after the hike to refresh myself. Enjoyable mountain. HP#41 for me!

Beat hurricanes Marco and Laura
Took a fun road trip a couple days in front of Marco and Laura. Weather was great, and view from the top of tower was nice.
There is a USGS marker dated 1941, here. Note that it is marked "Cheehahaw", and not "Cheaha."
Completed this hike with Memphis Outdoor Adventures — good hike and good fellowship afterward in the lodge restaurant!

Highpoint # 21
Since my company decided to shut down from Dec 25 - Jan 1 and my fiancee (unluckily for him/luckily for me) works retail, I booked a flight South to tackle 2 more highpoints. Despite the fog and rain, it was a great hike up the Lake Trail - roadwalk - Cheaha Express - Express Connector -roadwalk ‐ Highpoint Monument ‐ Leave No Trace Bigfoot Trail ‐ roadwalk - back down Lake Trail!!

Foggy morning, nice spot
The most significant part of this expedition was the fact that I had my trusty road atlas available for navigation, since cell reception is spotty in the vicinity of the park. The high point is in the midst of a nice state park with very pleasant employees who are happy to guide visitors to a parking lot right across from a lovely overlook building. Apparently there are real climbing routes available, but it was a densely foggy morning when I went and I was on my way to Georgia so I was happy to take the easy route.

This is Alabama. I flew into Memphis. I then proceeded on a 1,955-mile road trip through the southern states to bag the highpoints in MO, AR, LA, FL, AL, and MS. Here is AL, highpoint number 22/51 for me and ranked 35/51. This is a drive-up highpoint. There is a small fee that you pay to the State Ranger. You then park at the top next to the tower that was built by the CCC funded by FDR. The USGS disc is on the left side (as you face the tower). The climb to the top of the tower was open and the views were marginal (due to the poor design of the windows). There is a small museum next door to the tower. There are plenty of primitive campsites along with a luxurious lodge whose pool has some of the best views around.
