Although not a chipmunk. Actually a golden mantle ground squirrel :)
I guess I should study zoology better! haha
I can just tell that European squirrel look different. haha
I watched this golden-mantled ground squirrel for a long time. He got into my food bag.
I thought first that it was some giant chipmunk (maybe took steroids), but as I was corrected above by Brian and looked it up, it was indeed a squirrel.
Despite what it is, he or she seems to like your hot chocolate or it lost its REI cup and thinks you stole it...He He
He liked also my oatmeal...I have more funny photos of this squirrel or a chipmunk on steroids...hehe
It was a great morning to just sit, massage my sore legs, and watch wildlife...
Thanks Eric. It was fun to watch this squirrel...
it's fairly easy...all chipmunks have facial stripes...this one does not. The ground squirrel is probably the only squirrel that can be mistaken for a chipmunk because of the stripes along the body. But it lacks facial stripes. Cheers.
Thanks... I was not sure whether Washington chipmunks look different from NM ones. But, I know now - not a chipmunk at all.... No Chip and Dale...
