Clouds over the high plain

Clouds over the high plain

... looking west by northwest. In fact, I've scrambled up the western bank of the Quebrada Achacullo and found myself on a plateau, at 4900m or so. Apart from the fact that there is no water, it's perfectly flat, and after removing a couple of rocks you can camp anywhere. There are wide vistas north and west. To the east and the south, Nevado Huarancante and Nevado Chucura rise a few hundred meters above the plateau. The snow-capped high peaks of Mismi, Ampato and others are 25km or more away. 12 May 2011.
