Great climb. Beautiful day. Lake was still frozen and we skinned across. Glacier made for a scary/icy ski down and there was deep snow up top. We could see a party up on Triple Couliours on Dragontail.
The glissade was well worth the climb.
A somewhat cloudy but still a great ascent via the Colchuck glacier. Fantastic glissade.
Climbed from the trailhead to the summit in 4.5 hrs. Wore approach shoes until below the glacier, then boots - crampons weren't necessary, although the top 100' was a little firm and icy. Cloudy day unfortunately. Traversed to Dragontail then down Aasgard Pass afterwards. Definitely recommend the two as a linkup.
Had fun going up the Col, as well as the summit itself.
In a two-day span with great weather and great snow conditions, Gimpilator, Josh Lewis, and I summited Colchuck Peak, then Dragontail Peak, then Little Annapurna, and finally Enchantment Peak. Over 10000' of cumulative elevation gain
but still a great early season climb
Colchuck Glacier mulitple ascents, NE Couloir (winter), NE Buttress (fantastic rock climb, one of the best in the Cascades IMHO)
Shared the route with one couple but other than that, all quiet. The crux was the long drive back to Spokane.
First time up this summit! Snow was soft, sunk to knees some despite following steps ahead of us, but did ok. Topped out at noon. Like others, great glisade!
After trying to plan this trip for about 6 weeks and always having something come up to thwart my plans, including pneumonia, I finally was able to make the trip. The weather forecast threatened to keep me away for one more week, but a buddy and I went anyway. We were rewarded with clear blue skies, little to no wind and gorgeous views from the top. Thank you to the party that left before us, (my alarm didn't go off) we had a perfect trail of steps already kicked into the deep, soft snow. Great trip and I will do this one again.
Almost gave up at the lake but decided to go for it at the last minute. Going down was the best glissade in my entire life. Beautiful. Exhausting. Well worth it.
Was invited on this trip with EastKing. Summited in the evening with a quick glissade down.
The longest glissade ever...
Made it up both but Colchuck Col was way too late in the season with blue ice in places...had to scramble around in a side moat. Pictures and map at http://www.willhiteweb.com/enchantments/dragontail_peak/colchuck_lake_089.htm
Had every intention of bagging Colchuck and Dragontail. Turned around less than 100 feet from the saddle between the two peaks, due to rockfall. Small stuff is bad enough, but when a microwave sized rock comes barreling down at you and you still have to downclimb it later- that's just not a game I'm playing.
Climbed up Colchuck glacier, then up the ridge to the summit, picking out some fun class 3-4 steps to climb on the way up. Then descended to the col, climbed Dragontail, and came back down to the lake via Aasgard pass. Descending from the notch at Pandora's Box involved a short 15 ft step of 55-60 degree snow.
Bagged Colhchuck and Dragontail together. Great views!
Great day in great conditions. Fair skies and firm snow up, soft snow glissading down. Up and down from car on same day.
