Colle delle Coupe

Colle delle Coupe

The little known Colle Delle Coupe (2345m), a small but ancient passage between the Valle di Viù (on the right) and the abyss of the Val Di Susa (on the left). The valley floor on that side lies more than 2000m below the clouds. The white building on the lower left is a small, derelict barrack, one of the many composing the so called Alpine Wall. While never used for its original purpose, it saw some savage fight in the summer of 1944, between partisans and nazi-fascist forces, who tried repeatedly (and vainly) to secure the area. The evident trail at the center goes to the Costa Fenera, a marvellous panoramic point on the wathershed, just between the Colle delle Coupe and the Colle della Croce di Ferro. The picture was taken from the summit of Pt. 2464, on my way to the Grand Uja (2663m).
