Hiked the Duncan Ridge Trail to the summit in late summer, pretty negligible views through the foliage but a nice serene hike through the Appalachians.
Climbed this several times as part of the Coosa Backcountry Loop. It's very easy to also throw in a summit of Blood Mountain with a ~1.5 mile round trip effort. Views are worth it.
Hiked up the coosa
A beautiful day to be up on the mountain! It was fairly overcast, making for a cool day that was just right. If it had been any warmer, it would have been fairly uncomfortable to be up there. A lot of the local wildflowers were in bloom, definately a good day to be in that area for that alone!
Summited Coosa Bald by hiking the Coosa Backcountry Trail by starting at Byron Herbert Reece parking lot, climbing up over Blood Mountain, and then following the Duncan Ridge to the Coosa. Hiked the Coosa clockwise. The climb up to Coosa Bald from Wolfpen Gap was some of the steepest trail hiking I've seen in the SouthEast. I was lucky enough to hike right after a 2" snowfall. It was a beautiful hike, even without too many vistas. I wouldn't recommed Coosa for views, just good strenuous quiet hiking.
Going to Coosa when the leaves have fallen gives a much better view than in the Summer. I have made several trips on this trail. It is a lot more fun when you are in good shape.
My wife and I continued our Thanksgiving tradition at Coosa. We backpack and/or climb on Thanksgiving. We had a great time on the Coosa BC Trail and jaunt to the summit, inspite of the constant deludge of rain. I don't think the dogs liked it so much though.
Long day...need to be in better shape. Bring plenty of water.
