great picture

I love this dawn with the rays of light over the cone of the summit. It's very similiar to a picture of Quitaraju in C.Blanca of Peru.

Re: great picture

Thanks bartolome, Yours is a great shot too, and as Velebit hinted below, you must be aware that they require crawling out of a warm sleeping bag at an absurd hour. In this case I also had to climb 250 feet up a hill in the dark in order to get this view. This shot of Lhotse was taken at the same time in another direction. I guess it was worth it!

Re: great picture

Fantastic the Lhotse as well. You're right, when I took my pictures of Quitaraju, Alpamayo and Artesonraju in the dawn, all my friends were sleeping confortably in the tents (very cold for me in this hours!!!). I believe that it is the only opportunity in the life because this places are too far and it is possible that you do not return and is necessary to take advantage of every instant and the dawn it's magic though some persons who do not want to get up early. For the "a bit crazy people", as you and me, I have indicated the hour of the photographies for if they want to try to capture someone of these wonderful moments (they are in the habit of lasting a few minutes). It makes me happy to know that I am not the only crazy one.

Re: great picture

> that it is the only opportunity in the life ...

Interesting that you should mention that. We think alike.

I would say to myself, as I was putting on my warm clothing, getting the batteries out of the sleeping bag but still into a warm pocket, the headlamp lighting the tent, "How many days in my life will I be in a place like this? Not many. This is a rare event, I can't lose it". And I would trudge out into the darkness alone. I never regretted it.

Re: great picture

Good move . Abandoning the warmth of tent and sleeping bag early in the morning is a bit of a challenge, however so well worth it! Awesome photos. I was fortunate enough to have done he same - if only my photographic skills were similar to yours!

Thanks for sharing, Liz

PS: Photo of Lhotse is just as breath taking.

Re: great picture

Hi Liz, good to see you back on SP! Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. I've spent time reading about photography, trying to undertand what makes a good photo, and how to capture one. Occasionally I get lucky. I like to say that half of it is being in the right place at the right time, and the other half is knowing that you are in the right place at the right time! Guess I get some credit for getting myself to that place, at that time.

I was following your Everest trip earlier this year, and was sorry when you had to turn back due to your family problems. Hope everything is OK.

Take care, Nelson

Re: great picture

Nelson, thnks for your concern. All is now well with myself and my family. The dissapointment was great however c'est la vie and I just feel it was not meant to be this time around. Will reply privately ... Thanks so much for following the expedition!

Re: Great!

Thanks very much Corax. Whenever I see one of these older SP v1 uploads I want to redo them, it can be much better these days.

Congratulations on your adventures this summer. Looking forward to some photos and a TR. Best regards.

Re: Great!

Thanks.
I'm not sure when I go back home. It may be a long time from now, but I will write a TR and upload some new Kangzhagri photos later.

Thanks! That is a high (no pun intended) compliment. I just ordered a new slide scanner today (Epson V500), I'll let you know if I ever rescan and improve on these.
