Easy Access During a Dry Start to Winter
The road to the trailhead had a handful of icy stretches that called for caution, but a few other parties were in the area on a Saturday. The other car parked at Deadfall Meadows was a Honda Civic with chains on the front; the vehicles at the upper trailhead on my drive out had 4WD. The trail had icy sections that were mostly avoidable and made an easy hike feel more adventurous. Views from the top were nice as expected. Thoughts of climbing the Clear Creek Route on mostly bare Shasta entered my mind, but the ridge from Eddy's summit to the point overlooking Mt. Shasta City provided exhilerating wind chill that made me suspect such an undertaking might have been far from pleasant, especially with my surgically repaired ankle still in the later stages of rehabilitation. My dogs enjoyed the outing after missing out in June.
