Two queries

Is this the samething as desert globemallow? Just a question.

Second thought is maybe this is a robber fly or something similar?

Really an excellent photo (which I should have said first.)

Yep, the flower is also known as globe mallow. When I was learning to identify desert wildflowers, the cheat sheet I had called it desert mallow. The scientific name is Sphaeralcea ambigua.

The insect could be a robber fly; I know some varities resemble bees. But I think it was a bee.
