The summit area is pretty complex, and it took me a while to find the actual summit.
Took a really steep way up. I don't recommend it!
First of four peaks that day.
Climbed this one with a small group from SMG. Started at the base of the NW ridge and climbed over the snowshed tunnel. Picked a route and had a fun day on mixed snow, rock, and ice.
Climbed 5 peaks this day. Ran across a survey marker at the top and did not disturb it, so that I would not get the $50 fine in 1939 dollars!
20" of freshies and the skis were at home! Oh well, always a great hike.
5th peak in one day.
I love Donner Summit and was fortunate to be able to climb there about once a week all summer. Even did the highway 40 "climb" via road bike. Awesome descent!
Bagged this and Mt. Judah by the trail. Fun! Windy!
Good winter fun with Mike.
Parked in a turnout just below Sugarbowl Acadamy. Quick snowshoe from there.
Found the corn ! Great snow below the micro towers as well.
Climbed with other folks from the Sierra Mountaineering Group. Great conditions for practicing basic climbing on the west face.
Dropped the NW Ridge/Face zone to the sheds with Granjero
Nice hike after a full day of sking..
Lotsa fun! Now, the reason why I am broke and have a nice n' scratched-up rack in the gear room. WML, thanks for teaching the basics... Buzzed of course! RIP my poor whiskey flask :-(
hilarious mixed moves over mixed snow, ice, and rock...and fun verglass! great times!
Forget how many times i've been here; one of my favorite areas in tahoe. Have rock climbed all over this peak and even the train trussle wall between tunnels off the North side near the bowl! Love it in the winter, have skiied into the bowl then snowshoed/skinned up to Judah then back to the parking area below the overlook lot multiple years. Someone left a nice kicker off the top of the center train tunnel roof drop-offs. Most air i've ever got followed by a drop down one of the gullies into the bowl. Awesome runs!!
Last stop on a Anderson/Tinker/Lincoln/Judah/Donner loop.
Pics are here.
