pretty easy peak with some great views.
Part of the journey to the top of Diab on my snow day hike
Really fun hike out of Mitchell Canyon. Should have gone all the way up to Diablo but I had already bagged it and was growing tired. Made a loop out of it by heading down Back Creek Trail. A very fun ridgeline hike I will definitely repeat.

As part of my training for the High Sierra Trail, a group of friends and I backpacked five Diablo peaks. Started from Mitchell Canyon, tagged Twin Peaks and Eagle Peak, then camped at Juniper Campground. On Day 2 we tagged Diablo, North Peak, and Mt. Olympia before returning to Mitchell Canyon.
w/ Amy, part of a long loop hike to the summit of Diablo and back from Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center. December is a beautiful time to be here!
Bagged this four or five times over the years on a ~16 mi four-peak trail run--Eagle, Diablo, North Peak, Olympia, and back. This run is best in winter or fall, but not after a rain.
Up Mitchell canyon Rd, down the ridge trail.
Done the 4 peaks loop of Diablo a couple times over the years including March 2007, Feb 2008, and Dec 2010.
Hiked on Christmas Day from the Regency Trailhead. Love this hike. When I lived in Northern California this was my at least weekly training hike. Never get tired of it after at least 100 ascents. Great view!
great training hike
From Juniper Campground. Lots of up and down on this route. Hot day!
It was on the way to the higher summit from Mitchell Trailhead. I wish the trail didn't drop a few hundred feet from the summit to the next saddle. Who designed this mountain anyways?
A quick stop on the way up to the summit of Mt. Diablo after starting at Mitchell Canyon.
Love this peak and this range and am so grateful it's so close to home.
Part of the five peaks loop. 18 miles, 6000' and a 50# pack, long day!
A pleasant ridge.
My current training hike. Not too long, but not too short. Steep on the way up and a less steep route down. Love it.
After an exhausting hike up Diablo from Mitchell Canyon, I actually talked my then fiancee into tagging Eagle on the way back to the TH. She was pretty new to this hiking/ peak-bagging stuff and I was very proud of her.
