Eastern European Hedgehog

The Eastern European Hedgehog (Erinaceus concolor ) is closely related to the West European Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus). This is a small omnivorous mammal. Nocturnal in nature, a hedgehog sleeps most of the day either under cover of a bush, rock or in a hole in the ground. However, in April and May it is possible to see one in a daytime while it is looking for a mate. When alarmed, a hedgehog will roll itself into a ball, causing all of his spines to point outwards. The female gives birth to young twice each year.Eastern European Hedgehog has a lifespan of about 10 years. In Poland this animal is under protection. The Low Beskid - May 5, 2008.
