Very nice

My only suggestions are to break the driving and hiking approach sections into two paragraphs for easier reading, and to perhaps cut and paste the directions to teh route page (so someone can just print the page and use it as a guidebook).

Nice page. I like this sentance: The 5th Class tree root pitch is an Island classic. Lot of those in the South Pacific! Along the same lines, in winter, when we have to climb over big snow and ice covered logs, we often refer them as 5th class logs.

Re: Very nice

Thanks Scott. Agree about the use of paragraphs and will get right on to that. Not about cutting and pasting the directions to the route section though. Neither is of any use without the other, so a visitor would have to print the whole thing anyway. Or have I misunderstood?

Sometimes vegetation is a help of course, then it's "natural aid". Not on Elkhorn though. That was one heinous approach.

Great page

I'm really enjoying your Vancouver Island contributions. Any plans for posting the Golden Hinde?

Re: Great page

Thanks and glad to hear all that work is appreciated. I haven't done the Hinde yet. Been saving it for my 60th birthday present this September. I'll certainly post it therafter. However, watch for Albert Edward (a hiking peak) and Victoria Peak in a wee while and lots of others as I find the time. Philip Stone's guide - linked on my pages - describes 300 or so Island mountains and even though I have climbed only a fraction of them (and a lot less than some folk here) I've got plenty to keep me busy - at least until the summer climbing season starts.

Cheers,

Martin

Thanks for another great one

Any time of the year this one can not be done?

Re: Thanks for another great one

Thanks again Brian.

In theory Elkhorn can be summited in any season. Winter ascents are rare, however. In fact the FWA was not until 1968.

Awesome stuff

Your pages on the Strathcona mountians really bring them to life for those of us that haven't made it there yet.

Re: Awesome stuff

Many thanks. You should go. In fact how come a Parksville boy hasn't been there yet? I was in the Park yesterday taking photos from Buttle Lake. There was one car at the Flower Ridge parking lot and two at Westmin and that was it!
