Re: Yikes !

I suggest West Face Gully instead, or maybe Hotlum-Bolam Ridge (if the northgate trailhead is open when you go) .. Hotlum-Wintun Ridge is good too (Brewer Creek trailhead) .. there are some good route pages for them on SP.

Re: Great TR

some might say 9:30 is ridiculous and way too early... i'd leave at 9:30 after last saturday! you'll be off the mountain by the time anyone reaches the hogsback!

Prime season

What do you expect when you climb Mt Hood on a Saturday during the middle of May? It is the second most heavily climbed peak in the world afterall. If you wanted to avoid the crowds you should have climbed it mid week or earlier in the season.

Re: Prime season

yeah, i understand we didn't pick the best possible time to climb the mountain, but we went when we could and it turned out to be a weekend. hood was one of those mountains i was never going to go out of my way to climb, and since someone else planned a trip down there, i jumped on board. but it did open my eyes to options on the north side!
