Scrambled the north arete
October 6 2019
Shaylee and I met Chad in Denver and we headed for the First Flatiron. We climbed Bakers Way and the North Arete. Chad led so I could stay close to Shaylee. It was a great climb, but chillier than expected.

Chad and I met in Boulder to climb the First Flatiron. We planned on climbing Fandango, but we didn’t have a good route description printed. We ended up on Kamikaze Overhangs and the Zig Zag route (or at least a variation of those routes) instead. Chad did most of the leading, but I led a pitch on Zig Zag, but got off route (we didn’t have a route description for this route). I ended up on a long runout section (X rated) that ended on some scary ledges. It was really intimidating. I descended back down to a minor ledge that I could place a little protection on and belayed Chad up. He climbed to the dead-end, pulled a sketchy camp placement I places and then headed right over some easier ledges.
The climb was fun, except for the scary runout moments. One and a half pitches from the top, we hit the much easier North Arete route and followed that to the summit. After that, we rappelled off the backside and hiked down.
Did some trad training with a friend.
Soloed the southwest face today. Rappelled down
Climbed with shanahan96, variation of the east face north started right and worked towards the northeast gully then hit the north arete to finish. Also climbed the 4th class route up the Sunset Flatironette.
Climbed within 48 hours of moving to CO! Having fun here already.
First and Third Flatiron solo. Climbed 1.5 pitches of Kamikaze Overhangs, then traversed to Fandango and summited via North Arete. Nice rock, beautiful views.
Dad led. Jimmy waited at base.
1980: dad led, with Mike.
Solo with a friend. 2nd "pitch" by far is the crux, IMO. The rest is pretty straight forward. Fun and good practice for later this summer.
Nice day out today, got one past the snow goalie...
Too nice for January! Soloed this with Glen as part of 3, 2, 1 linkup. Climbed Baker's Way today.
such a classic fun route! simul-climbed.
Such fun and so close! And I've got a new profile pic now.
climbed this with Steve Crosby. Summited about 10pm in a full moon...others on the third and the second...
Three different routes to the top.
4/12/2011: Southwest face ascent and descent free solo
7/2/2013: North Arete free solo
fun to finally get on a flatiron..bluebird skies was the icing. with Captain
Did a slight variation of the East Face Direct Route (5.6). My first time on technical rock outdoors. It was amazing!
Awesome views from the summit.
