First View of Mount Cleveland

First View of Mount Cleveland

Scramble up the notch, walk the few steps across the ridge, and there you have it: our first view of Mount Cleveland! It's still about two miles to the mountain proper, and whereas the goat trail worked its way below the cliff band on the west side, on this east side of the Stoney Indian Peaks, we would stay above the gray belt of rock. Even without the clouds, Cleveland's summit is not visible from this point—what you see is...a false summit. But that didn't matter to us because we could actually see the mountain, and it was close, and big, and almost right there! Photo by Vernon, September 7, 2007.
