Frog calling his mate

Frog calling his mate

Pacific Tree Frog calling females to the water, spotted deep inside First Creek Canyon of Red Rocks, Nevada. April 2008. The male Pacific Tree frog can be distinguished by the darker throat. The puffing of the skin while making mating or territorial calls makes it get lots of friction, which causes it to get darker.

Re: Nice Shot!

Thank you Afzal. I was excited that he didn't stop calling when I approached. Most of the time when they hear you, they become quiet and pretend they are not there.

Re: Great moment

Thank you. Yes, it was. I herd him from a distance and went to look for him. They like water with lots of algae. Higher up there were some deeper pools, but very little algae and no frogs.
