"Gambol Knob" is a Roper name. Or possibly Ian McKay coined it. I asked Roper about this peak about 10 years ago, wondering if he had climbed it since I might do it the coming weekend, and he said he had not. So I went on a road trip and on the return I camped at the gate and went to climb it in the morning before heading home. Well about halfway up the SE Ridge I encounter footsteps in the mud. Huh? It was only later that Roper came clean and said he and Ian and Ian's dog had climbed the peak (and named it) the day before I climbed it just so they could claim the FPBA.
