Self-arrest

With that slope to your left, I assume you are proficient at self-arrest ! Very scary to slip. Charles Baxter

Yes Indeed!

We used to practice our self arrests by picking a safe slope and then jump off backwards (head first, downhill) until we were confident we could do it in a real fall. We did it with our crampons on to make it as real as possible. Being a skier helped too because I have fallen at high speed on icy slopes when everything blows up in a matter of seconds.

One year after our climb a doctor from Boise slipped in that same spot and was fatally injured.
