This was previously all glacial ice. Most of the glacier is gone now.

climate change

The glacier on Orizaba has receded significantly since my last visit 19 years ago. the normal route went straight up here - but now this route is not worth doing. Instead, bear far right to where the glacier still reaches down to the rock.

That is a big change.
We were there about the same time of year just 6 years ago, and that was all snow.

Holy smokes!

I'm going back there in November for the first time since 2007 and am trying to get some recent beta and this speaks volumes! WOW! There was snow all through the labyrinth when I went!
