Gletscherschlucht

Gletscherschlucht

The valley between Eiger and Schreckhorn is filled with a glacier, which melted a lot in the last decade. While mid 19th century it was still reaching the main valley below Grindelvald, later it melted and people started to quary marble in the vicinity. Today a whole canyon is ice free and arranged for tourist visit. The walls of the canyon are completely vertical and more than 100 meters high on both sides. An indeed very impressive scenery inside! Summer, 2013.
