Globe Penstemon (Penstemon globosus)

Globe penstemon is found in north and central Idaho and adjacent northeast Oregon. Habitats vary greatly ranging from low elevation meadows to parklands near the timberline. There seems to be significant differences between specimens from these widely variable habitats and perhaps some taxononmic work would separate these plants into different varieties or species. The higher plants (seen here) seem more robust and the globular feature of the flower head is generally more pronounced. Photo from near Grangeville, Idaho.
