Various routes  Sucess!

Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky and beautiful day. We had to don crampons for the final 1,200' of the ascent. Good snow conditions allowed us to ascend the northwest side of Gobblers and to plunge and glissade nearly straight down the north side. Fifth time on the summit, second winter ascent. Add one more for the 15th of June 2007, so 6 times at the top. Make that seven. 11-20-07. From Butler Fork; no snow to speak of, and that is too bad! 11-27-07 #8 - from Bowman Fork w/ Lana. Icy spots on upper half of trail from Bowman Fork TH. 03-18-08 Ascent #9, with Brent. Tons of snow. Climbed summit ridge from the northwest all the way. 4-08-08 Ascent #10. With Brent, Lana & Dave took our "new" route, breaking trail in one foot of new powder the entire way up. Fantastic cornices were a beautiful surprise for so late in the season. 4+25 up from Bowman Fork TH (on Millcreek Canyon Road). #11 9-2-08 with Anne, Brent & Alex via Bowman Fork. Traces of the season's first snow covered much of the trail above 8,000'. #12 (1-23-08) w/ Brent, combo with a climb of Mt. Raymond. From Butler Fork TH. Wonderful fall day. 2+06 from TH to summit. #13 w/ Brent, from Bowman Fork, n.w. ridge to summit(2+10 trailbreaking in 12" of powder). 3+47 up 2+12 down. #14 with tons of new powder. With Brent, Christine & Dave. 4+12 up 2+07 down. The now-familiar snow route. #15 w/ ZeeJay on 4-23-09 Still plenty of snow on the north-facing slopes and the summit ridges. Snow route, Bowman Fork. Snowshoes the final hour up. Beautiful day. 3+12 up 1+48 down. #16 8-6-09 Solo via Bowman Fork. PB time (1+59)to very windy pass & summit. #17 8-11-09 w/ Dave & Brent, 1st to Mt. Raymond, then Gobblers - yes, a two-fer. #18 Twofer w/ ZeeJay; Gobblers first, then Raymond, only 8" of snow along ridges. #19 1-5-10 Bowman Fork/Terraces rte. W/ Dave. Packed trail for 1+35, then snowshoes in less-than-wonderful conditions (not enough snow). 3+38 up 2+36 down. Cold & windy on top: what else is new? #20 2-4-10 Old winter route, much snow. #21 7-24-10 Via Mill B North and Desolation to Baker Pass; spectacular wild flowers. 2+58 up. #22 7-29-10 W/ Brent via Bowman Fork. Wildflowers in vast profusion. #23 9-7-10 Part of Mill B North Raymond, Gobblers, Raymond trio w/ Brent, Dave and JP Lewis. #24 12-7-10 W/Dave. Via Bowman Fork on microspikes and snowshoes (bagged Mt. Raymond 1st). Winter route down. Beautiful conditions in fine snow. #25 3-15-11 W/ Dave & John Lewis. Bowman Fork snow route. Tons of the white stuff. Windy on the summit ridge - just like winter. :) #26 7-19-11 W/ Dave & Brent via Butler Fork. Did Raymond first. #27 10-1-11 W/ Brent via Bowman Fork. Gorgeous aspen colors. #28 2-9-12 Another two-fer, this one a winter slog. Rotten snow conditions about 50% of the time. Still made it & bagged Raymond, too, all in snowshoes. #29 4-14-12 On a snowy spring day, direct to the summit from the west (sehr steil!). Mit Sonderperson. #30 7-24-12 Showery a.m. climb on rain-slickened trail. Trotzdem schoen. #31 7-28-12 Solo to summit. From Bowman Fork (canyon road). 2+12 to summit-whew!-but not PB. #32 7-31-12 W/ Brent & Anne. Then to Raymond. 2+40 up. #33 10-30-12 Lotsa new snow; ice on lower trail; w/ Brent. 3+55 up,2+57 down. #34 2-2-13 Lotsa trailbreaking via Bowman Fork and an alternate winter route. Sonnenschein u. S.person. #35 & #36 2-5-13 Using the winter snow route and subsequent approach along the north ridge I hit Gobblers twice whilst sandwiching Mt. Raymond in between via Baker Pass. Twas a long day in snowshoes: nine hours from the Bowman Fork/Terraces parking spot on the Millcreek Canyon road. #37 3-9-13 Via Butler Fork mityz along giant drifts on the approach from Baker Pass. #38 7-6-13 From Mill B North TH over Mt. Raymond and to Gobblers and took Mill A Basin return to TH. Wildflowers blooming amok! #39 8-6-13 W/ Brent from Bowman Fk w/ Mt. Raymond 1st. #40 10-10-13 W/ Anne, Bowman Fk, birthday hike of sorts, some snow and lt rain. Beautiful fall colors accented with the snow. #41 3-27-14 Solo. Moderate snow, tough trail breaking & 20-25 mph winds made for an interesting winter route 3+49 climb. But just following a good example... #42 4-1-14 No April Fool's Joke: via Bowman Fork in ss the entire way, heavy trail breaking and once again unrelenting SW winds. #43 6-3-14 w/B. Bowman Fork, up in 2+40. IVD mit jedem Schritt! #44 6-24-14 w/B. Bowman Fork, did after Raymond while B. waited. IVD tons. #45 10-30-14 Via Bowman Fk w/ B. IVD sicher. Up in 2+55. #46 02-24-15 W/ B. Unusual winter route. Up in 3+45. IVD selbstverstaendlich. #47 3-31-15 W/ Brent 3+36 up via different winter route. I tacked on Raymond, Brent went down. IVD viel. #48 8-15-15 w/ Brent. 3+02 up. IVD. #49 10-17-15 W/ Brent 2+59 up. Fall colors - ahhh. IVD #50 11-28-15 W/Brent. SS above 9,200'. Very cold, tough climb - 5+29 up. #51 1-16-16 W/ Brent & Lana, 5+33 up, trail breaking in deep powder & blasting wind on west & north ridge winter route. #52 2-6-16WMC hike w/ Carol, Lana, Julie & Brent. Fabulous snow and wx. 4+50 up winter route. #53 2-19-16 Mit Yz und Broc. 4" new snow, strong SW winds above 9,000'. #54 8-2-16 W/ Brent. 3+35 up. #55 10-15-16 W/ Lana as part of the so-called Wildkitten, a variation of the Wildcat Ridge with a start from Neffs Canyon TH. #56 1-20-17 w/ Dave & Lana via winter route. #57 2-4-17 WMC hike. Lovely hike- Summer 2006  Sucess!

Hiked via Mill B. Had a grand time hiking over large mounds of snow not yet melted (Texans are easily amused.)

Alexander Basin  Sucess!

Great route up Alexander Basin, very scenic this time of year, probably the preferred summer route. Shady most of the way and northeast facing

Headlamp Hiking  Sucess!

08/24/2006 I headed up Alexander Basin to meet Matt (Asher) at the top. After hitting up Gobblers Knob I headed up Mount Raymond, then down Bowman Fork and back over to Alexander Basin.
08/21/2007 Up Alexander Basin and down the north ridge.

great hike  Sucess!

Did this hike via Bowman fork in Millcreek. What a great trail! Even on a Saturday morning I saw only one other hiker the entire trip. Gobblers Knob is a great, easy summit... However, I prefer it's neighbor, Mount Raymond, because it is more fun to climb.

With Mountaingazelle from SP. Did Raymond and then over to GN. Were not quite sure of the actual summit at first, but we finally made it. Awesome day!

Alexander Basin  Sucess!

One of the finest hikes in the Wasatch. First climbed in 1963 and never disappointed during the many times since.

I climbed Gobblers Knob with Scott (climb14ers) after climbing Mount Raymond. The weather was nice and there weren't many people out hiking. Good trail and great view from the summit.

Route Climbed: Butler Fork Date Climbed: 26 July 2004  Sucess!

This was a quite long hike, totalling about 7 to 8 hours for me. The trail went through forest and land filled with so much wildflowers for anyone who loves to try and guess what they are called. At Baker's Pass, I was surprised to see a lone Sego Lily out of nowhere.

Route Climbed: Alexander Basin Date Climbed: August 24 01  Sucess!

I have been on this peak three times. The first and third, I took the conventional Alexander Basin route and the second time to add a new twist I climbed directly up to the ridge west of the meadow and followed the ridge south to the summit. Attaining the ridge was some of the steepest hiking I have done without a trail on dirt and somewhat loose rock. The third time I did this in late Fall of '04 we continued on to Mt. Raymond, decending at Baker Pass and the Baker Spring trail loop back to the Alexander Basin trail. Lots of elevation gained and lost on this one. The fall colors were electrifying and the temperature very pleasent.

The summit with the best name in the Wasatch.

Route Climbed: Soleus Ridge Date Climbed: January 29th, 2005  Sucess!

I climbed this with Joe Bullough last Saturday, heading up a steep ridge I dubbed Soleus Ridge due to the excessive strain the hill put on our calves. My inclinometer measures much of the ridge to be 40 degrees steep. After summiting on fine styrofoam snow, we continued over to Mt Raymond and back down to Butler Fork in time for me to catch a Sundance Movie - all in all a perfect day.

Route Climbed: Alexander, Bowman, Butler, Dog Lake Date Climbed: numerous  Sucess!

My favorite trip is to go up Bowman in the spring, then glissade down Alexander's, then take the cutoff trail back to Bowman...The ridge to Dog Lake isn't bad either...
