Mary E campground (USFS) is very near town, no fee. On San Miguel River, off Illium Road just outside of town. Opened last year apparently (2018) after being closed for some years. No water other than that of the river. Portable outhouses when we visited.
(We tried for Telluride town park campground, but found it to be full).
