A short hike to a small peak on Mt. Shasta
"Billy was a mountain.
Ethell was a tree growing off of his shoulder" - Frank Zappa - 'Billy the Mountain'.
Shasta is definitely a mountain and
Gray Butte, (8,108') is a satelite peak growing off of the south slope at around 7,500'.
This is an easy jaunt from popular Panther Meadow that takes an hour or 2 and has big views of Shasta, south to the Lassen peaks and
Castle Crags and west to the Trinity Mountains dominated by 9,025'
Mt. Eddy the highest mountain in the Coast Range.
