Gray Hills

After the Gros Ventre Road crosses Crystal Creek shortly past the Red Hills, the Gray Hills accompany you for about 10 miles to Upper Slide Lake. The Gray Hills do not have maintained trails and seem like a wanderer's delight, but there is a catch-- approaching requires fording the Gros Ventre River. In late summer or a dry year, the ford can be pretty easy, but I have also seen the river swift, wide, and deep-- too dangerous to cross. This particular formation is close to Upper Slide Lake.
