Summit number 1
Done in a day a long time ago.
Last of the three Memorial Day vacation summits and by far the most enjoyable. As with Black Mesa in OK, we skirted around the weather and arrived after they had had significant rain in the area - the wildflowers and cactus blooms were incredible. Stayed at the Pine Springs campground and took a quick hike to Devil's Hall the evening before. Saw a "small" - 7" giant desert centipede. Apparently they can get to 10" long - pretty creepy looking! Hit the trailhead early and were the second group up . A lot more folks were heading up late morning/midday. Saw 4 Barbary Sheep hanging out near the summit. Probably one of my favorite HP hikes so far. Glad we did this one in spring and not summer as it looks like it could get very hot and dusty on the trail.
Good hike with my wife to the highest point in Texas! Then back home to Albuquerque...
Pretty much the perfect day. Last night there were some scattered showers over the peak and we woke up this morning to a very clean air day. You could see the Franklin Mtns in El Paso over 100 miles away in the distance.
I loved that one entire side of the peak looks out onto vast plains and salt flats, no mountains in sight. A unique vista for a "tallest" mountain.
Very nice trip in the morning... great views :)
Bagged this peak during a cross country road trip. Great peak and National Park!
Attended the BYU vs Texas game in Austin. On the drive home we bagged another state highpoint. Started the hike around 6:30pm after a nice long day in the car. Summitted about 8:20, just as the sun was dipping below the horizon. Snagged some fantastic photos. It was really rainy the whole trip and humid so the dew point had the clouds around the whole mountain, from the trail head up. But we were fortunate to have a break in the clouds at the summit. Descended in 2 hours in the dark with head lamp and full moon. Total hike: 8.4 miles and 3:59:08
Left car at TH around 7:40am. Summited 2 hours later. Mingled, began descent at 10am. In car putting on flip flops by 11:30am. Light wind gusts, plenty of sunshine, and great views! Was greeted by lots of people on their way up. Texas again lives up to its reputation as the Friendly State. Oh, and don't forget to bring an AUX cable or CDs for that rental car - radio stations and cell reception are ify in those parts!
Another highpoint on my cross country road trip with my college buddy Eric. A good climb, but cloudy with no visibility at the top.
Hike up from the visitor's center took about 3 hours. Beautiful region; great views from the trail and the summit. Somewhat windy so took a break below the summit in the sun. Very crowded (weekend) and more clouds/wind, even some rain, rolled in in the late afternoon on the way back to El Paso.
Guadalupe Peak Trail solo.

Started at dawn for a comfortable hike up, but the sun was beating down on us on the way back down.
Slept in the bed of my pickup and faced 50mph winds and sub-freezing temps that night, and awoke to a light freezing mist slowly soaking my bag. Cool and breezy conditions during the climb. Wonderful views and great companionship with my two friends who accompanied me. Sure wish I could have brought my pooch!
Weather down at the Pine Springs CG was breezy but nice with clear skies. Mother Nature had other plans for the top. It took me 1+50 to reach the top and by then everything was topsy turvy: 20-25 mph winds from the SW, viz 1/4 mile and brrrr. But the hike was overall a nice experience.
Awesome trip and a beautiful day hike. This was the 35th anniversary reunion of some of my college outing club buddies. Perfect weather and great views. Busy trail on the holiday weekend. Thanks to Linda, Fernando, Paul, Tom, and Debbie for a great weekend! Camped in the "RV" part under a pickup cap because the tent camping was completely full. That worked out just fine. #36 state highpoint for me!
I've climbed this peak several time as well as the nearby El Capitan and I have enjoyed it every time I surprised a bunch of Barbary Sheep near the summit last time I climbed it.
Over cast day not much views while on mountain. But that saved us from sun. Cool hike lots of wildlife and children on trail. Really fun made great time
