Long walk, not summit
Got to shoulder but didn't make the summit w/ the cables. The cables were down... I had already hiked 16 miles... hadn't really acclimatized at all and was coming from sea level...and other excuses.
Nothing special about this ascent besides the views. Oh yeah, and the fat guy laying in the middle of the cables crying and wishing that it was over (He was about 30 meters from the summit).
Enjoyed the hike up with friends, especially passing on the outside of the cables to bypass the crowd!. Wanted to go back the following year on my 50th birthday to rock climb it but never made it due to a shoulder injury.

Snake Dike Simul
After gaining the dike itself simul climbing the route made for one of the best uninterrupted trips up a piece of granite I have ever had the pleasure of making. Props to Alex for leading this continuously runout route.
My folks met climbing Half Dome in '63, so this has always been a favorite family spot. My dad and his brother were backpacking and ended up meeting and accompanying my mom to the summit. He claims that he has cooked the only lasagna ever cooked on Half Dome. I have summited the mountain numerous times since I was a child.
A beautiful hike, but harder then I expected for the gain and distance. Probably more fun in the cooler months.

Cables route
Hiked the Cables Route with my 11 year old son. We made it round-trip in 8 hours. Nice hike. My second time on the summit. Saw a huge rattlesnake on the hike up by the Shoulder. Got a pic of it.
Wonderful hike up the cables, even with the crowds.

Cable Route w/out the crowds...
...since the cables were still down. No snow or ice on the cable section. Tied-in to cable w/ a prussik a loop & 7mm accessory cord. Progressed reasonably quickly up & down the cable holding the slack loops in one hand. Needed a second prussik to transition where the cable anchors to the rock. Had the top to myself for a brief period.

Half Dome
My first great hike. One of my fondest memories. I was in such spirit that I did the hike on back to back days from Curry Village (Happy Isle). The cables were laying on the beautiful granitic batholith and I just eat it up.

Snake Dike
A good way to avoid all the crowds with a rewarding view from the top. Coming down the cables was the scariest part.

Cable Route
Climbed the Cable Route August 18th 2005 with my brother. Long hike but with some excellent views all along the way and especially at the top. Didn't know until now there were any other non technical ways to the top. Hope to come back someday and do it the hard way....someday.

Climbed with awagher. A fun day. We started from the Curry Village parking lot at 5:40am. Did the climb in 7 pitches (3.5 hrs). Topped out at the summit by 1:50pm. Back at Curry Village by 5:10pm.

Climbed with Javier Gonzalez. We took Javier's minimalist rack for this climb (actual gear we used: 60m rope, 3 quickdraws, 1 single runner, 5 locking biners, 2 oval biners and 5 cams (1 red Alien, 1 orange Alien, 1 Metolius #4, 1 green BD .75 and 1 pink BD 1.0). Left Curry Village at 7:45am. Did the actual climb in 2.5 hours starting at 11:15am and finishing the last pitch (8th pitch for us) at 1:45pm. Then, it was another 40 minutes on the class 2 slabs to the summit. Stayed at the summit for almost an hour. Descended via the cables, ran down to past Little Yosemite Valley and took the Misty Trail down (well, it turned out to be the SHOWER trail down.....as I got soaked from Vernal Falls). Back at Curry Village at 5:30pm for pizza & beer.

The cables were down against the rock as of 10/27/2001.
There were many many gloves (like work heavy-cloth gloves)
by the small rock saddle just before where you grab the
cable. It was a bit windy at the saddle. I used the right cable as I went up. Stayed almost an hour at the summit.
A classic hike everyone should do at least once. Really wish I'd done it on a weekday, as the crowds were overwhelming at times. Bypass the waiting line by going up the outside of the cables.
I was with my boyfriend's school group. It was November of 1988. We camped at Little Yosemite Valley then hiked the cables the next morning. The view from the top was incredible, of course. I remember lying down on my stomach on a sloping rock and looking over the edge of the northwest face. Lots of crowds but still a beautiful area.
