I likely wouldn't have moved to Cali if it weren't for the week with the boys in the Valley and Tuolumne. Snake Dyke with Joseph was a highlight for sure. good times!
My friend and I climbed the Cable Route in a relatively speedy day hike where we tried to beat the crowds and the weather. Sure enough, people started showing up in some force (for a week day) when we were on the way down and it was a full-on rain by the time we were descending the Mist Trail. But, it was definitely a fun time!
Climbed Snake Dike with Carlos. Fun day even with the crowds. Had to wait for four parties at the base of the climb, then a ton of people on the cables to make it down. But still a great way to climb Half Dome!
This was a back-up plan after I failed to get over the Red Peak Pass due to snow (and lousy routefinding..).
Slept at LYC and did the hike early. I had a great time and want to go back from the north.
Want to go back and do it by Snake Dike!
John Muir up, Mist down. Very nice views on the way, but quite crowded.
Climbed with Dad... this was second ascent, but got to the top this time! Totally worth it!
Beautiful day . . . guy I met hiking up and I were the only ones on the summit
Climbed the cables route on day two of the John Muir Trail.
A very nice hike with an amazing view at the top. The last few hundred feet were extreme. Using cables and metal rods for help. Very fun. Can't wait to do it again. You get to see allot of the park around you as well.
did in 3 days. slept at base, pitch 11 and Big Sandy. fun. no crowds
Climbed via JMT to the cables. Left at 4, just missed sunrise on top. Great day!!
climbed Snake Dike back in June of 07. great climb. and great views
Our group of about 30 Boy Scouts and adults started at 5 am in hopes of avoiding the crowds. Cables not to crowded on the way up but on the way down, was I5 in downtown LA at rush hour. My 6th time on the summit, 3rd time as a day hike.
The first hike I ever did was up Half Dome - been there three times after that. Highly recommend going off season when the cables are DOWN. What a rush!
The cables weren't nearly as bad as they looked. Patch of snow on the summit made cooling off great!
Day tripping from a long weekend in San Francisco en route back to San Diergo. Base camped near the Lodge (Camp 4) and took the route via Happy Isles. The Cables were the best part of the whole hike, thank god for the safety harness I brought...would love to do it again when snow is in full effect.
Hot day, wonderful hike, many people
this was my 2nd time up, the first being with scouts many years before. I brought my girlfriend and we left the valley around 4am, getting a nice start to ensure some solitude on the way up. We ended up being the earliest to the top but then had to pass the masses on the way down--some people make the passing on the cables exciting.
