High Camp Hotel, Huayna Potosí

High Camp Hotel, Huayna Potosí

This photo shows the 5-star digs on Huayna Potosí. I suppose you need a serious establishment on a peak where dozens of climbers visit daily. Anyways, this is the official high camp (there are a couple of agencies that stupidly use higher high camps). We made the summit in around 3 hours 15 minutes from this point. The camp is 2-floors, with tables on the bottom floor (where the guides also sleep) and dozens of dirty foam beds on the second floor.

Just like the Alps

This "hotel" didn't exist in 1958 when I climbed Huayna Potosi. I wonder when was it built? Where is it located and how close to the summit is it?
Obviously Huayna Potosi has become a far more popular climb than it was fifty one years ago. I believe we were the only party to reach its summit that year.
