Highpoint of the historic Komárom County
Highpoint of the limestone plateau called Péter-tó (598 m), in the Gerecse Mountain in Hungary. It is not the highpoint of Gerecse (that is a nearby summit of 633 m) but the highpoint of the historic Komárom County, This county was founded in the first half of the 11th century. The summit Péter-tó was its highpoint until 1945 - though due to administrative changes it lost its privilegized position for 30 years in that 930 years of history. Since 1945 - again as a result of administrative chages, the standalone Komárom County doesn't exist, and its highpoint is not the summit Péter-tó any more.
Péter-tó literally means Peter's Lake. Strange name for a summit - but possibly there was a minor lake on the plateau earlier.
I took this photo on the 13th April 2011. It was snowing with huge snowflakes. Not usual in Hungary in the mid of April...
