The author of "Bird and Hike" actually called the summit block "exposed 4th-class or easy 5th-class climbing." If you note the little ledges on the way, it isn't too bad; the trick is to find the same ledges on the way back down. I climbed it in trail runners, but did sling a rock with a handline for descent -- 50' recommended -- "just in case."
