Holy Cross Scramble  Sucess!

Park on the north side of the road one kilometer west of the Sentinel parking area. If you parked at the actual pull out, you need to walk west along the road for 100 meters or two and locate a trail up and into the trees. Follow the trail up the right side of the drainage. It eventually goes up and over a col and down to a view to the west of Holy Cross and its causal north ridge. There are times you lose it in a forested/grassy area. Keep trending up and left to relocate it. After reaching a scree slope where you have full view of the objective, descend and cross the drainage below where you lose any resemblance of a trail (2019) and start switch backing up the grassy slopes to the ridge above. Follow the ridge line as it bends east to the summit. One of two hands-on (3rd class) short sections. There was a summit log as of 2019.

Descend by retracing the ridge for a bit and then descending the waterfall gully below. One of these water falls is tall enough to make like it is in a Hawaiian advertisement. Makes a perfect shower if you like getting naked in the wilderness. It crosses over to the left side which is straight forward all the way down into the bottom of the drainage. Reconnect to the approach trail where it ended.

Early Season Ascent  Sucess!

Ascended the NW ridge route to the snowy summit ridge. From here we traversed to the summit despite fierce cross winds. The best part of the day came when we glissaded down the main gully and lost most of our elevation gain in a few minutes. Early season recommended, but bring snowshoes for the forest!

Almost

Not quite to the actual summit. Had to descend from the ridge as one of the members of our group sliced himself open on the sharp rock. All down safe and sound. Good day out all the same. Must return to finish her off.
