I think I'll move this down a bit on my tick list as I had been thinking of doing Buffalo Hump this summer. I hate roads like that after a similar road in Idaho last summer but your road sounds even worse than the one I went on. Nice TR and pics.
Yes, the road is a bummer. I would like to go back to the Hump, but I want nothing to do with that linear rock pile. An option might be to drive to Lake Creek and hike up to Crystal Lake. From there a climb of the mountain will be longer, but certainly can be done. There would still be rough driving to Lake Creek, but nothing like whats beyond. I think camping at Crystal Lake would be nice.
