busy is usually a bad thing but this time it was terrible! thats what i get for going it in June though. nice area and view of The Three Apostles!
I climbed Huron Peak at age 4 with my Dad in July 2006. My Dad and I also attended the 14ers.com gathering on October 28 2007 where I went up to 13,640 feet.
This was my fourth time climbing Huron. It was part of the 14ers.com Halloween climb. We returned to Huron and climbed it on the standard route 9-6-08.
This was my first time climbing Huron. It was via Lulu Gulch over Browns.
Hiked the Northwest Slopes from South Winfield Trailhead. Impressive views of The Three Apostles.
Great climb on a less travelled route and stellar views of the Apostles.
Probably the most scenic 14er in the Sawatch Range. Tremendous views of the Three Apostles from the NW approach route (Winfield TH).
My 3rd CO 14er summit!
The day before I tried to hike up to the summit, but was turned back around 13,000 feet due to approaching thunderstorm. So headed back and tried again the next day. This time the weather held and I was successful.
This was our second attempt on Huron. Our first was derailed by a route finding problem. Climbed the standard route this time. Got schooled by a girl about 8 running up the hill. A very nice view, with a nice trail!
but a beautiful mountain, especially with the leaves changing.
Solo hike in an almost full moon. Left the 4WD trailhead above Winfield at 1230am. Summitted around 320am (with several stops to set up the tripod and camera). Nice and bright above treeline -- no need for headlamps. Watched the moonset from the summit--very neat experience except that meant it was extra dark on the way down. The trail is excellent and you can tell some hard work has been put into it.
My first 14'er for 2005. Great way to start off the season! Went a second time with a friend and hiked through fog the entire time. Guess they'll have to go back for the views.
Beat the weather again even though this time the wind wouldn't stop.
I climbed this peak with two friends from 14ers.com. Great weather and view of the Apostles! I felt a little tired and behind the other guys because I had just arrived from sea level 2 days earlier.
A nice mellow climb on a rest weekend.
Started from Winfield as I dont have 4WD. Very scenic and relaxing day.
Had to walk the 4WD road, so a bit of a long hike. Really nice trail from TH, though, thanks to the CTI's hard work. Great views all along the way and at the summit. Rain threatened from about 12:30 on, but only sprinkled until we reached the car. Group photo, including the keeper of Huron SP page is here: http://www.summitpost.org/image/211726/Celebrating-at-the-Summit.html
From camp at Winfield I walked the four wheel road taking a left uphill and later a right on a closed mining road. This road circles around the shoulder of Browns Mt. high above the Banker mine.Down the regular route.6:15am start:11:30 summit. My second 14ner.
Absolutely beautiful. Up the north ridge and down the standard route. Was able to spend more than an hour on the summit. fifteenth fourteener and fifth in three days.
