E. Ridge
Took a friend up for his 1st 12'er. Got a late start and ended up coming down in the dark with headlamps. Camped in the meadow below. Nice.

1st twelver
This was my introduction to 12ers and solo climbing. I love this mountain and I had the whole thing to myself. The ridge to the summit took a long time but was very fun and worth the effort. Great views all around.

Not a Cloud in the Sky
Took advantage of beautiful September day to do a solo climb of Hyndman. Had the place to myself, which I hear is kind of rare for this peak. The scenery on the approach is awesome, and the summit views are excellent. Climbing the ridge seemed to take forever though. Here’s a write up and some photos.

Standard Route
Great climb, only 4 hours to the summit. Cant beat a 12,000ft peak with 12 miles. The storm hit us pretty good on the way down. Hail the size golf ball's. Great trip!

30th Anniversary
It occurred to me on the way up (standard route) that it was thirty years almost to the day that I first made the climb (1977, 1993, 2007). I wasn't quite 17 then and you could drive right up to the bottom of Cobb, so this was a very long but rewarding day. The wildflowers were blooming everywhere. Hyndman Basin is simply one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Great trip up the standard route
We invited some friends along for an overnight backpacking trip that included a climb of Hyndman. The trip turned out to be quite amazing and those friends still have pictures hanging in their house of the climb. It also turned into a little more effort than anticipated, but all of the sore muscles go away while the memories seem to hang around!

East Ridge
Tried this route once earlier this year (5-5-01) couldn't make it to the summit because the snow fields were way too soft. Second attempt (7-8-01) was successful and the flowers were stunning. Fun to ride a bike up the trail for the first 2 or 3 miles and stash it in the shrubs...makes the way out much, much fun.

Did it!
I was been itching to climb a mountain and finally my Dad and I decided on Hyndman. It was a blast and I'll be back again. The view from the top is amazing!

Southeast Face/Ridge
Due to snow depth in the bowl between Old Hyndman and Hyndman, we ascended talus ribs toward the ridge, rather than from the saddle. Cold! Kevin's zipper thermometer read -10. Not sure if it was that cold, but with wind chill it certainly was. 12er #6.

This is a great hike up a very scenic valley. The scree and talus the last 1,200 ft was a bit loose, but no big problem.

Fun hike. Initial part drags a bit. Easy boulder hopping to the top. I still think it maybe is a bit harder than Breitenbach. Area is definitely greener than the Lost Rivers.

3 of my friends and I climbed it. We camped at one of the lower lake for fun and climbed the next day. We reached the summit pretty quick and were back to our cars to meet Dean from summitpost. He was a great guy, way to go Dean!

A Gorgeous Approach
The normal route up Hyndman offers as much scenery on the 6-mile approach as it does on the summit. It has creeks, lakes, wildflowers (depending on season), and a great view of Cobb. I recommend going when the wildflowers are in full bloom. Eight LHBCers made it to the top in 2000. I reached the summit alone in July of 2005. Made it up again with two buddies Memorial Day of 2007.

Very scenic area. Quick jaunt in 5 miles and up 5,000 vertical feet. Last 1,000 feet went straight up SE face which seemed slightly harder than the SE ridge used on the way down. Only person to summit this July 4th day that I know of. Great views of rest of Pioneers, White Clouds, Boulder, and Lost Rivers. Fun mountain, will do again.

Drove up from Boise, solo-ed the standard walk-up Hyndman and drove back to Boise that evening. It made for a long day! Fall is certainly the best time to be in Idaho's mountains.
