Lobaria pulmonaria

Very green lichen low on the apppalachian trail on the south side of Bigelow. A single trunk was covered with this and other lichens, when most trees nearby were bare. November 2015 Lobaria include a third symbiont besides the usual fungus and alga: a cyanobacterium capable of fixing nitrogen from air.
