The ice is so blue because it so dense that it has almost no air bubbles. I've seen blue ice and many glaciers before, but nothing as blue as the ice in Tracy Arm.
It's because the glacier calves right into the ocean and is a vertical face at it's snout. The blue ice came from the bottom of the glacier and has been compressed under hundreds of feet of ice for so long.
