Interesting formation on Ben Lomond summit

Interesting what a combination of sun and wind from the west has done to the snow on these rocks, which are a few steps southwest of the Ben Lomond summit. Feb 28, 2009

Rime?

That looks to me like rime ice, which grows out in the direction of the wind as supercooled droplets smack into the rock.

yeah, i think you're right, but at the time i posted this, i was having a hard time believing rime could have formed there with how warm and dry it had been.
