It is not too often that an interesting peak in northern CA goes completely under my radar. This looks like a nice little mountain with great views of the surrounding giants. Well done! What condition is the trail in?
we went up the Backbone Lake Trail last summer (2011). It is basically an overgrown road. It is in good shape for hiking. There are a few rock slumps and a few narrower brushy spots, but still good width for hiking. Oh yeah, there's no sign or obvious trailhead at the beginning, but it's pretty easy to find if you have a map. It was warm so a dip in the lake felt nice.

I say this in all humility...It is not too often that an interesting peak in northern CA goes completely under my radar. This looks like a nice little mountain with great views of the surrounding giants. Well done! What condition is the trail in?
