4th time on top. 1 snow couloir, 2 hikes and 1 ski. Need to go back for Super Star.
Climbed along with Colorado Mines, Flora,Eva,Perry, Bancroft. Long Day but very rewarding.
Always a standby when the weather is bad...but never a summit. Finally topped out multiple times on Sky Pilot, Shooting Star, and Starbright Couloirs. Superstar still sloughing too badly to take on.
Hiked with CMC. We hiked up over St. Mary's Snowfield and then came down on the other side of the ridge to the west of St. Mary's Snowfield.
Skinned up from the trailhead and skied all the way back down. Great snow, lots of fresh powder.
Great climb...socked in the clouds on the way up...great views and clear on the way down. Lots of snow
Last ranked Gilpin County Peak.
Fun slog, great weather.
Snow shoes all the way to and from. Started up a 9:53AM, up an over St Mary's Glacier, through some high winds, past the rock pile, across the tundra, went a bit too far right and ended-up on a bare/rocky slope but soon found some large cairns. Reached the summit at 1:02PM. Glorious day, crystal clear skies with unlimited visibility. Back to the parking lot at 3:04PM. Sweet!!
Fun hike of James Peak. Saint Mary's Glacier was in rough shape. First time to see the glacier outside of winter. Very different!
started early - had the whole mountain for myself!
Finally after many attepmts (1. Whiteout, 2. Cold, wind, 3. Car sliding backwards down the hill), the pup, the wife and I finally were successful. Also hiked over the bump known as Kingston, and scrambled to the top of Fox Mountain which held great views of St Mary's Glacier.
I'm not sure exactly when I climbed this one. It was one of the first real mountains I climbed after moving to Colorado.
I did it from the Winter Park side.
Climbed from Rogers Pass, and on the summit had jets fly below us. This was amazing.
Hiked and then skied James Peak from St. Mary's Glacier. First ski descent and first peak with my puppy. A great present for my birthday, today.
Great ski descent after battling the wind all the way up. I was knocked to the ground twice, and Ben three times. Brutal conditions, but well worth the effort.
Great, safe, winter climb. Easy to avoid slopes prone to sliding. Just be mindful of the way back down if conditions turn. It would be easy to miss the right descent.
Super Star was in fine shape, plenty of snow still.
This was one of my early climbs with the IU hiking group, and I enjoyed it thoroughly enough to be inspired to keep hiking weekly with this group!
