I've been planning...

to climb Kili for far too long. And now, after reading your TR, you've really got me jonesin' to climb Mawenzi, too!

Mawenzi

Yeah, Mawenzi would indeed be a worthy prize. I wish I would have had an extra day to climb it, but I think you have to jump through some hoops with the park service. I think you may need a permit as they don't want inexperience people climbing it. There's supposed to be a class 3 route on the north ridge.

Great Report

It kinda makes me feel like I was there...because we were! I was part of the group that flew in from Amsterdam with you guys. We had the same summit day. We weren't expexcting the high winds. We had a great trip with Zara as well and reccommend them. There are some Photos on our website if you are interested http://www.climbingforchrist.org

Yes, I do remember seeing you! I think you ended up visiting the same school we did as well! We kept on bumping into you guys it seems even though we ended up on different routes. Congrats on your trip as well and fine organization you are a part of.

Good stuff!

Finally had a chance to read through the report. Sounds like a great trip! I'm amazed that they actually make the last day the hard one - sounds like a lot of gain compared to the easy days before that.

I'm itchin' to go!

Thanks for the report! I'm planning my climb for Feb 2008 and am looking at Zara. I'm curious, did you book through Adventures Within Reach or the UK branch of Zara? Thanks!

Adventures within Reach

I did book through Adventures Within Reach, but I think you can get a better price if you go directly through Zara.

Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification. I am currently looking at AWR as one of my options. I'll get a quote directly from Zara and compare. Thanks again.

Great report!!!

Really enjoyed reading it. Moreover, you summited on the same day as me...and when I scrolled down the page I noticed a photo titled "Nearing the roof of Africa", where in fact you have also taken a shot of my guide (the guy in a yellow coat) and me (the guy in a green coat), just behind the guy in red...My summit pic is here.

Thanks for posting!
Take care,
Jan

Excellent report!

I just had fun re-reading this report for a second time. Its excellent and well-written.

I first came across it three years ago, on another computer that has since departed this world, and lost my bookmark to this report.

I hope to make this trip with Zara if they are still around, in Feb 2011

Nice photos with good composition and colour!

Cheers,
Frederic in Montreal, Canada
