western slopes  Sucess!

Entertaining bushwhack. Got cliffed out once on the ascent and descent. Eighty minutes to the top from the bridge before the canal. Go to the northern summit for the best views of the lake. I climbed the western flank of Quartz Mtn and Hicks (almost entirely surrounded by water) the next day. The campground had a beach and showers, so the swim afterwards was great.

Snowy and Memorable  Sucess!

My cousin and I started from the 'private' side of the mountain and our route stayed fairly close to the power lines running up to the summit. It was a bit slippery in places as some of the snow had melted, but I would still consider it a hike of medium difficulty. The summit was spectacular; completely covered in snow with high winds whipping powder around wildly. Overall a wonderful experience if you like the cold like we do.

* There is an awful lot of electrical equipment strewn about on the mountain, as well as garbage I assume the workers left behind tucked under that equipment.

Rout Climbed: Western slope from the highway  Sucess!

An Air Force buddy and I climbed the peak approximately following the route posted on this site. We had a great time and no issues even though we are inexperienced.

It looks like someone has cleaned up most of the trash mentioned in hokiehigh's log. There are still some boards and a few industrial transformers lying around the radio tower at the summit but otherwise it was pretty well clean.

Route Climbed- NW slope from the highway.  Sucess!

Fun climb. The summit was covered in trash and scrap metal. I have posted pictures of what I saw. The garbage included car batteries, paint cans, a gas cylinder, and drink bottles. Anyone have visibility on who has responsibility for the site?

Route Climbed: Western Slope from the highway. Date Climbed: Around 1989  Sucess!

My son Ben and I climbed this peak with about 2 inches of snow on the ground. It was a great bonding experience. Scrambling and bouldering. Actually saw some ice falls on the west side in the shade.
