Laitel, Varful Laitel

Overview

Varful Laitel is not prominent summit in main ridge of Fagaras
Mountains. Its situated between peaks Lespezi - at west and Laita - at
east. Slopeas are mild, covered by grass. Its often visited because its
close to Transfogarasan Road and nice panorama to most sharp - shaped
part of these mountains.

Getting There

The best way to get here is Transfogarasan Alpine Road - Balea Lake
- highest point of this route. Lake Balea is reachable by taxi, bus or
personal vehicle from the town of Curtea de Arges or from Sibiu.

Route

From Balea Lake  - follow the signs toward Lacul Caltun - to west - its
about 2-3 hours of easy walk, short parts are secured by chains. We can
also to trail which begins at south side of Transfogarasan - before
tunnel, but its a little bit longer way.

Red Tape

We should be wary of shepherds dogs.

When to Climb

All year - but of course the best conditions on summer.

Camping

In Romania we can camping, without any permissions, in mountains are
shelters - nearest - refuge Caltun - but it should be used in emergency
situations. Mountain huts - where we can sleeps are at Balea Lac.
