Last stop before the summit

The weather was closing in and one of the guys decided to leave his rucsac at this point so he could move faster, and pick it up on the way back down. Unfortunately for him some Alpine Chuffs (birds!) decided that the sweaty padding on his pack was tasty, and they pretty well destroyed an expensive rucsac! Has anyone else ever had this problem?
