I think I was there on this WMC trip...

the chopper was low on gas and there was a thundercloud moving in, but they managed to get everything done fast!

Re: I think I was there on this WMC trip...

Mockba, sorry I just noticed your reply to this... yeah, it was Aug 19, 2001 and it was a WMC hike... big group, like 15 of us, only name I can even remember in the group was Pete Mimmack whom I hiked with a few other times. Lady leading the hike was a former EMT which came in handy!

Yes, it was Cheryl's trip

and one of the very few summer WMC outings I ever joined. You can read several versions of the accident report here. It was a sweltering afternoon, too hot for my Siberian skin, so I took off from the summit to dunk in some ponds at the peak's base and to wait for the crew at the TH. So I haven't seen the accident ... just the rescue.

Yeah, that's it... I was in the third (slowest) group coming down from the summit. Heard rocks tumbling and saw him cartwheel once or twice before coming to a stop miraculously. I think he was in the "second group" about 10-15 minutes ahead of us. Was a long wait up there on the ridge and that storm was getting awfully close!
